By Air
Bhuntar at near about 50 kms is the closest airport. Cabs and taxis can be hired to reach the Manali city, a cheaper option is to take buses run by HPTDC. It takes about two hours to reach Manali by road from Bhuntar. Jagson airlines operates flights from Delhi, Shimla and Chandigarh for Bhuntar. Bhuntar is also connected to Delhi by daily flights by King Fisher airline (Air Deccan). Jagson also connects the airport thrice a week with Dharamshala and Shimla. Extra flights run during the main summer season.

Manali:
The area of Manali is sacred and Hindus treat The temples over here as pilgrimage. 40 kms. away from Kullu to the north, Manali is situated near the end of the valley on the National Highway..

Hadimba Temple:: This temple, with a finely wrought four - tiered pagoda roof, dating back to 1553, is built around a natural cave, which enshrines the footprints of the goddess Hadimba. Hadimba was the wife of Bhima, one of the five great Pandava brothers of the Mahabharata, and later became the patron goddess of the Kulu royal family.

Kullu Valley:
The valley is the most favorite among tourists who are interested in natural calm and beauty and want to see silvery mountains. The place, full of multiple floras and fauna, is heaven for travelers. Kullu is the perfect place to catch a glimpse of Himalayan culture and its people.

Manu Temple:

Just near the Hadimba temple flows the Manalsu River, that culminates in the main Beas river. Across the Manalsu river is the original village of Manali, that houses the ancient temple of the sage Manu. Manali itself is named after Manu, who is said to have dwelt here.

Monasteries : Manali also houses three Tibetan monasteries, that have been built recently.

Arjun Gufa : Five kms from Manali near the village of Prini is the Arjun Gufa, Arjuna's cave. Arjuna, one of the Pandava brothers, is believed to have performed his penance here.

Vashisht : Three kms from Manali is the village of Vashisht, which is renowned for its hot sulphur springs. The village is also the site of some old temples, dedicated to the great sage Vashisht, and to Lord Rama. The Himachal Tourism sulphur baths are just beyond these shrines.

Jagatsukh :
The erstwhile capital of Kulu, Jagatsukh houses temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and Sandhya Gayatri.

Solang Valley :
Around 14 kms from Manali, is the Solang valley, that boasts of the glacier nearest to the resort. Replete with terrific picnic - spots, the amazing ski slopes here are full of hectic activity, come January - February.


Towards the Rohtang Pass :
Six kms from Manali, on the way to Keylong, is the Nehru Kund, a beautiful spring named after the late Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, former Prime Minister of India.

Adventure sports in Manali
Skiing is a major pastime in Manali. Facilities for skiing are available at Solang Nullah (January-March) and Rohtang La (during summer). The Mountaineering Institute at Solang Nullah is a good training institute. Heli skiing is possible at the deep snowfields. The Mountaineering Institute and Allied Sports is about 3 km from the Mall and offers mountaineering and kayaking courses. Kayaking is possible on the Beas River.

Naggar:
Naggar, an extremely pleasant village, is located at an hours drive from the main city of Manali. The former capital of Kullu, people visit this village to see the glorious castle which still holds testimony of the capital. If you are in Manali, make sure to drive down to this place too.

Kothi:
Located in picturesque setting, Kothi is a place that offers excellent surroundings. Peaceful, serene and full of natural beauty, Kothi is a perfect location to relax and retreat. The place overlooks Manali Valley and the surroundings mountains and forms a popular excursion of Manali

Gadhan Thekchoking Gompa:
This Gompa dominates the Tibetan area around the bottom of the Mall in Manali. The Tibetan refugees built the Gompa in the late 1960's. The Gompa is covered with brightly coloured frescoes and a mid size Buddhist statute. It also carries a list of the martyrs killed in occupation of Tibet of 1987 to 1989.

Tibetan Temple:
Tibetans have a base in Manali too. There is a large modern Tibetan temple to the South of the bus stand and also a small handicrafts center.

Old Manali:
The old Manali area is located some 3-km from the present day Manali. The old Manali is covered with guesthouses, which look ancient now, and orchards where the livestock move at will.

Raison:
Raison is a small cluster of villages on the banks of Bias river abour 12 km north of Kulu. It is famous for camping sites and starting point for white water rafting on Bias river.

Manikaran:
The serene location and the seemingly mysterious hot springs made Manikaran (Kullu) a place of pilgrimage in earlier times. Guru Nanak, the first Guru of the Sikhs, visited this place.
